2023 GEORGIA CYCLING RELAY RACE RULES

STUDENT TEAM RULES

  • Each team will receive one entry to the relay race regardless of team size. There is no cost for teams or students to participate. 

  • All teams must have seven riders and include at least one boy and one girl. Each participant will complete one full lap; nobody can race two laps.

  • Only students in 6 - 12 grades can compete. 

    • If a student received a petition approval to race freshman from 8th grade, they may participate in the freshman category for this race.

  • Must include one rider from each category (6,7,8, Freshman, JV2, JV1, Varsity); if a team doesn’t have a rider in a category, they may select a rider from the next category down. If the team does not have a rider in the category down, teams may recruit students from other teams as a “substitute”.  If a team does not have a rider in the 6th grade, they may select a rider from the 7th grade. 

  • The Head Coach is responsible for selecting the seven students.

  • The Head Coach is required to order the riders in the race from fastest to slowest. 

    • Example: this student will race lap 1, and this student will race lap 5.

    • Note: Female and male students will be racing together on the same course.

  • All Georgia Cycling rules listed in the Georgia Cycling 2023 Rule Book apply to this race.

  • The staging order for the race will be based on each conference series team standings.

  • Teams will transition riders in the designated staging area.

    • One Coach per team is permitted in the staging area.

  • Teams will use a rubber wristband as the “baton” that will be provided on race day.

    • Each student must exchange the baton to the next teammate. 

    • Each team must have their baton with them at the finish of the race. 

    • If a team fails to have their baton at the finish line, the team is DQ. 

 Registration: 

  • Each Team must complete the registration that is sent out by Georgia Cycling by Tuesday, October 24  at 8 p.m.

    • All 7 racers’ first and last names will be included on the registration form as well as what lap they are racing.

Scoring: 

  • The team that completes all 7 laps in the fastest time wins. 

  • Students will use 7 unique race plates that will be picked up at HQ by the Head Coach.

Awards: Each Conference winner will receive a team award. 

Course: This racecourse will be approx. 2.5 miles in distance and includes a long jeep road for passing. 


 Coach team rules

  • All teams must have four riders and must include at least one male and one female. Each participant will complete one full lap; nobody can race two laps.

  • If the team does not have enough Coaches to fill a team, teams may “substitute” a Coach from another team.

  • Only registered and compliant Georgia Cycling Coaches can compete. 

  • Head Coach is responsible for selecting the four Coaches.

  • Head Coach determines the order in which the Coaches race. 

    • Note: Female and male Coaches will be racing together on the same course.

  • All Georgia Cycling rules listed in the Georgia Cycling 2023 Rule Book apply to this race.

  • Staging order for the race will be based on each conference series team standings.

  • Teams will transition riders in an area that will be identified as the “transition zone”.

  • Teams will use a “baton” that will be provided on race day.

    • Each Coach must exchange the baton to the next teammate. 

    • Each team must have their baton with them at the finish of the race. 

    • If a team fails to have their baton at the finish line, the team is DQ. 

Registration: 

  • Each Team must complete the registration that is sent out by Georgia Cycling by Sunday October 22nd at 8pm.

    • All 4 racers first and last name will be included on the registration form as well as what lap they are racing.

  • Each team will pick up a packet that contains 4 unique race plates for the event. 

    • The Coaches will use the same race plates as the students. We ask that Coaches pass the plates onto the students after their race.

Scoring: 

  • The team that completes all 4 laps in the fastest time wins. 

Awards: Each Conference winner will receive a team award.
