The Georgia Cycling Association WANTS to ensurE girls across Georgia discover their ability to be successful in youth mountain biking

more than just a sport…

When a girl participates in mountain biking, the potential exists to change her life. Research shows that young women benefit from cycling in specific ways:

  • Moderate levels of exercise can help girls fight depression.

  • Female high school athletes were less likely to consider, plan, or attempt suicide.

  • Girls who play sports have higher GPAs and have higher opinions of their abilities

  • 80% of female executives at Fortune 500 companies reported playing sports as children.

girls ride events

The Georgia Cycling Association hosts a variety of “Girls Ride” events throughout the year. Some of our events are designed to be an “open house” of sorts to allow girls to experience mountain biking firsthand, while others are for female riders already participating in a Georgia Cycling program. Our events are always free!

Mothers and daughters are encouraged to attend together. While our open house events may spark a female student-athlete’s interest in mountain biking, it could also ignite a mother’s interest in becoming a coach.

everybody can ride

When young women ride mountain bikes, it allows them to build confidence, strength, and character, hoping to unlock their full potential to become powerful leaders in life.

Georgia Cycling has two programs:

  • Trail Rangers is our elementary-aged program emphasizing skill development through gameplay, making new friends, and fostering a love of the outdoors.

  • TeamMTB is our program for middle and high school students, which combines skill development and healthy competition.

We never hold tryouts! Georgia Cycling does not have performance-based requirements to participate. To lower the barriers to entry, we have rider assistance programs.

When a woman joins our organization as a volunteer coach, she becomes a role model and an example of what is possible. Anyone who wants to help students grow into their best version can become a coach! You don’t need to be a mountain biker…in fact, many of our coaches started riding because they became coaches.

Georgia Cycling provides training to anyone eager to become a coach. (The Crazy Bell Lady is a coach and one of our trainers!) To learn more about becoming a coach:

our commitment

The Georgia Cycling Association is committed to a sporting environment where everyone can feel a sense of belonging. We know representation is important because if student-athletes don’t see themselves represented in the sport, they are less likely to develop meaningful participation.

To increase representation, we have assembled a team of current coaches and athlete alumni to be our Girls Ride Champions. This group of accomplished women host our outreach events and help individual teams/programs with their recruiting strategies.

We recognize how powerful it can be for a young girl to hear a recent graduate talk about their experience with Georgia Cycling. It is also important for the parent of a young girl to hear a female coach talk about how her daughter has benefited from the program.

our sponsor

The Georgia Cycling Association’s “Girls Ride” initiative is made possible by a grant from Fox Factory’s Trail Trust program.

Trail Trust seeks to diversify the population that participates in the cycling and power sports industries, which have historically seen inadequate representation. Fox Factory is committed to getting more women stoked on mountain biking, and hopes that an initiative like “Girls Ride” can cultivate a sense of camaraderie and excitement among women in Georgia.
