OUR IMPACT

The Transformative Impact of the Georgia Cycling Association

At the Georgia Cycling Association, we don’t just teach kids to ride bikes—we change lives. Across the state of Georgia, our programs are creating stronger communities, fostering resilience, and inspiring families to lead healthier, more connected lives. We provide athletic programming and personal development for public, private, and homeschooled students in grades 3-12. Through the power of mountain biking, we’re building a future where young people discover their potential, families come together, and entire communities thrive.

A Gateway to Personal Growth

For many kids, our programs are more than just a sport—they’re their gateway to personal growth and athletic development. In fact, 54% of TeamMTB participants state that mountain biking is their only sport. This means that for more than half of our student-athletes, Georgia Cycling provides the only structured opportunity for physical activity and self-discovery. Without this program, countless children across Georgia would miss out on these critical experiences.

Strengthening Families Through Cycling

But the impact doesn’t stop with the kids. Our reach extends into the heart of families and communities. An impressive 70% of student-athletes report that their household rides bikes as a family, either often or occasionally. This ripple effect shows how Georgia Cycling fosters not only individual growth but also family bonding and shared wellness. Even for the 30% of participants whose families rarely or never ride, TeamMTB practices and events offer a vital connection—a place where these kids can experience the joy and camaraderie of cycling within a supportive team environment.

Our influence can also be transformative for members within a participant’s household. 47% of parents report that at least one other family member began riding because their child joined Georgia Cycling. These stories illustrate how our programs ignite a passion for biking that spans generations, inspiring entire households to embrace healthier lifestyles.

DEVELOPING A SENSE OF COMMUNITY

The Georgia Cycling Association is more than just a collection of teams—it’s a statewide community. With over 100 local youth mountain bike teams and programs, we bring together student-athletes, volunteer coaches, parents, and staff to create a network of support and camaraderie. This large and vibrant community is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of young people across Georgia.

Often, athletes find a profound sense of belonging within our community. Many Georgia Cycling participants share that they have tried other sports but never felt truly at home until they discovered mountain biking. Here, they find their place, their passion, and their people.

Building Strong Minds and Healthy Habits

The benefits of Georgia Cycling extend well beyond physical activity. TeamMTB athletes report remarkable improvements in their mental and emotional well-being. From preseason to postseason, participants reported:

  • A 7% increase in confidence in their ability to manage stress and anxiety.

  • A 3% increase in success in their schoolwork.

  • A 10% increase in the ability to get restful nighttime sleep.

  • An 8% increase in feeling connected and supported by others.

  • An 11% increase in feeling healthy and strong overall.

These numbers represent more than just percentages; they reflect the transformation happening within every child who joins our programs. Behind every statistic is a story of a young person gaining confidence, finding community, and learning to overcome challenges on and off the trail

One Ride at a Time

Through our programs, we’re not just building better athletes; we’re building a stronger Georgia. Whether it’s the quiet confidence of a child who conquered their first trail, the laughter of a family riding together for the first time, or the joy of a community coming together at a local event, the Georgia Cycling Association is making a difference—one ride at a time.

Join us in this journey. Together, we can empower more kids, strengthen more families, and create healthier communities across Georgia.
