experience youth cycling
Join the Georgia Cycling Association for a morning of free family fun on the trails at Heritage Park on Saturday, June 29, 2024. All Girls Ride events are free and open to all adult females and students 6-12th grade.
Take advantage of this opportunity for young women to experience the excitement of cross-country mountain biking. This event will have a collage of different activities designed to create physical and mental exercise…with the added benefit of getting to know some new friends!
No Bike? No Problem!
Don’t stress if your child doesn’t have a mountain bike. Georgia Cycling has you covered! We will have a supply of youth loaner bikes available. Sizes and quantities are limited.
“Expedition Heritage Park” Agenda
Below is a rough outline of our time together. Individual times may adjust, but we will open on time and will end on time!
10 a.m. - Check-in Opens: sign your participation waiver* and have your bike and helmet checked. All participants must be checked in by 10:15 a.m.
10:15 a.m. - Ice Breaker Activities
10:30 a.m. - Expedition Heritage Park Begins! Our Girls Ride Champions will serve as the Expedition Leaders for each group. Each group will be on the search for a series of task stations. Each station is designed to highlight a different skill or strength–maybe math, maybe art, maybe music–you will just have to come and see for yourself.
Once time is up or the task card is complete, teams will return to the Expedition Headquarters for the final task and the unveiling of the Expedition Heritage winners.
12 p.m. - Ice Cream Party: No Girls Ride event would be complete without an ice cream party. As a big group, we will celebrate our accomplishments during the Expedition. Then, you’ll be able to spend quality time getting to know riders from other teams while enjoying a cool refreshing treat.
*Anyone riding a bike at this event who is NOT a 2024 registered student-athlete or coach will be required to sign a waiver to participate. Minors will need to have a parent sign their waiver. If the parent of a child will not be in attendance on the day of the event, please email lisa@georgiacycling.org to complete the necessary paperwork in advance.
know before you go
-
This event is open to any girl who will be in 6th - 12th grade during the 2024-2025 academic year. Mothers, grandmothers, and other adult females are welcome to ride along. This is a girls only ride so we kindly ask that guys find something fun to do while the girls are on the course.
-
Everyone participating in the ride needs to have a working bike, a bike helmet that fits properly, closed toed shoes (like sneakers or running shoes), and a water bottle. Participants should wear comfortable clothes suitable for doing physical activity.
-
We may have a limited supply of loaner bikes available for this event, however, that is not guaranteed. The best thing to do is email girlsride@georgiacycling.org and inquire about a loaner bike for this event.
-
Unfortunately, no. If you arrive late, there will be no way to get you caught up to the group. Similarly, if you need to leave early, we won’t be able to stop the group to bring you back to the parking lot. Therefore, we ask that all participants be prepared to attend the entire duration of the event.
-
Absolutely not! Anyone is welcome to attend. All you need is the desire to take a bike ride and have a little fun.
-
Of course! The more the merrier. We encourage those that are registered with a Georgia Cycling team to reach out to new faces and welcome them into the world of youth cycling. As an experienced rider, you might be a huge confidence boost to someone who is new to the sport.
-
Parking is FREE! Go to:
2543 Macon Hwy
Watkinsville, GA 30677As you approach the property you will see signs along the road that say “Georgia Cycling Event”. Simply follow those signs and they will take you to the parking lot.
everybody can ride
When young girls ride mountain bikes it allows them to build confidence, strength, and character, with hopes of unlocking their full potential to become powerful leaders in life. We never want a young girl to overlook her shot at finding success in the sport of cross-country mountain biking.
Georgia Cycling has local mountain bike teams across the state of Georgia. Our teams are open to ALL middle and high school students. We never hold tryouts, and we never have performance-based requirements to participate. To lower the barriers to entry, we have rider assistance programs.
our sponsor
The Georgia Cycling Association’s “Girls Ride” initiative is made possible by a grant from Fox Factory’s Trail Trust program.
Trail Trust seeks to diversify the population that participates in the cycling and power sports industries, which have historically seen inadequate representation. Fox Factory is committed to getting more women stoked on mountain biking, and hopes that an initiative like “Girls Ride” can cultivate a sense of camaraderie and excitement among women in Georgia.
